Every object we preserve bears a trace of the past. An archaeological find tells of people who lived here centuries ago. An old photograph captures a moment that might otherwise fade into oblivion. A work of art offers a glimpse into its creator’s world. Everyday objects speak of work, customs, celebrations, love, loss and the small moments that make up a life.
At Gorenjski muzej, we uncover, explore and connect these stories. Some reach back thousands of years, while others belong almost to our own time. Some tell of major turning points in history, others of ordinary people. Together, they weave a tapestry of stories from Gorenjska – its landscape and the people who have shaped it over time.

Vision
Gorenjski muzej is the heart of Gorenjska and a recognised centre for heritage interpretation and communication, learning and inspiration. Through professional expertise, innovative approaches, inclusion and community engagement, it helps shape the region’s identity and contributes to quality of life, sustainable development and heritage preservation.
Mission
Gorenjski muzej researches, protects, interprets and communicates the heritage of Kranj and Gorenjska, making it accessible to contemporary audiences through its museum activities. It is an open space for knowledge and dialogue-based learning, fostering understanding of the past and of Gorenjska’s role in shaping Slovenian identity and a sense of belonging.
